I know my banner says that I don’t post politics, but I feel this is an important historical marker to note.
At this exact time 150 years ago, forces of the Confederate Army fired the first shots upon Fort Sumter, igniting the American Civil War. The war eventually accumulated 623,026 casualties, a total greater than the American casualties both World Wars, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War combined.
As a descendant of soldiers from both sides of the war, I ask that you take a moment today to appreciate the sacrifices, losses, and struggles faced by both sides of the United States’ bloodiest conflict and how profoundly it has shaped the nation.
Thank you.

Robonaut 2, the first dexterous humanoid robot in space, will be aboard Discovery’s last mission today.
